F/A-18 Hornet.

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet. This modern all-weather carrier-capable strike
fighter jet is currently the front line aircraft of choice for the U. S. Navy and Marines. It has also been
the aerial demonstration aircraft for the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels since 1986. At a cost of nearly
$60,000,000.00 "per plane", this Mach 1.8 (1,190 MPH) crotch-rocket burns in excess of $5,000.00
worth of fuel per hour. How's that for a high gas bill ! The unique design of the Hornet lends it's
adaptation to the Super Hornet and the Navy's newest plane, the Growler (soon to be replacing the
Prowler), with only limited modifications.
